Vehicle Crime in Cambridgeshire
Cambridgeshire Constabulary recorded over 3,800 vehicle crimes in the 2024/25 financial year, with Cambridge, Peterborough, and Huntingdon accounting for the majority of incidents.
Relay theft is now the dominant method — accounting for an estimated 70% of all keyless car thefts nationally. Criminals use devices costing under £100 to amplify key fob signals through walls and doors.
The East of England region has seen a 12% year-on-year increase in vehicle theft, outpacing the national average. Areas around Cambridge station (CB1), the Grafton Centre, Cherry Hinton, Arbury, and Trumpington are consistently among the worst-affected.
Only 48% of stolen vehicles are recovered nationally. However, vehicles fitted with Scorpion trackers have a 96% recovery rate — thanks to 24/7 monitoring and direct UK Police cooperation.
